The Rev. Dr. Katharine (Katy) Hinman is associate pastor of Decatur First United Methodist Church in Decatur, GA.
Before coming to Decatur First she was a pastoral scholar at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, through a grant from The Fund for Theological Education.
Earlier she served as the executive director of Georgia Interfaith Power & Light, a nonprofit organization dedicated to working with faith communities on environmental issues.
Katy earned a master of divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University and is currently working through the ordination process in the United Methodist Church.
Before entering the ministry, she was a biologist, having earned a Ph.D. in ecology and evolution from the State University of New York in Stony Brook.
Many of us are probably familiar with the story of Thomas. Doubting Thomas. Thomas, the one disciple who stubbornly refused to believe until he saw with his own eyes the risen Christ. Silly Thomas. If only he had listened to the others, but no. He has to see for himself. After all, seeing is believing. He has to ask questions; he has to make sure.
