The Rev. Dr. Tripp Martin is the pastor of Vineville Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia. He served as an associate pastor at Northminster Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi for almost seven years before moving to Georgia.
Tripp has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Georgia, where he also first learned about the rhythms of congregational ministry, while working at First Baptist Church of Athens, Georgia. He received a Master of Divinity from the Divinity School at Wake Forest University, discovering the richness of ecumenism and the rhythms of the Church. After working for several years, he also completed the Doctor of Ministry from the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University, concentrating on the areas of preaching and worship.
He and his wife, Katharine, have two sons who are the richest part of their lives. When he is not working, he enjoys playing golf and basketball, reading and writing, and music and traveling.
In the midst of spring fever, as we unclutter crowded closets, toss out items from a packed attic, and sort through a congested garage, we are liberated from the confines of our mess. We create more room in each nook and cranny of the house, feeling as if we have performed an exorcism. We cast aside all that is burdensome or restricting. We fill numerous trash bags and discard everything that is unnecessary. We leave no stone unturned and do not keep anything that we have not used for years.
Read full article...In recalling the comforting words of Jesus, where he says, "I am the good shepherd," we find familiar words, knowing that we are counted by God and that God knows our names. We take heart in knowing that not only do we seek God, but also that God seeks us, as a shepherd seeks scattered sheep. We can read those words with the highest hope and in the darkest despair. A "good shepherd" is trustworthy and faithful, committed and dependable.
