Dr. Ozzie Smith on this week's Day1 sermon
The Rev. Dr. Ozzie Smith offers some thoughtful feedback about this week's Day1 sermon for Easter day, "Deadly Things" by the Rev. Dr. Scott Black Johnston.
Dr. Scott Black Johnston again delivers a provocative word. Last week's look into "Hosanna" still rings in my spirit. The fear of what we might be asked to do by Jesus down the road ahead of us is something to chew on. The gong, young lady's laughter, and "Jesus is on the loose" phone message rattle us in our comfort zones--none of us will be spared from knowing them after hearing this message. The question looms, "Will we run from or run to Jesus?"
Jesus is still on the loose--no opinions, nails, or grave can hold him. All of the crude violence of then and the sophisticated indifference of now yet fail to keep Jesus in check. He offers a stimulus package of pardon for us all: "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." Still he speaks from eternity, "If I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men and women unto me."
Thanks Pastor Scott Black Johnston for an earthquaking Word! Thanks Day1 for the lift!
