Roy Lloyd: It's Just Not Fair!

Sullen kids often shriek, "It's just not fair!" And they're probably right.  But we teach them to move forward by sharing and doing something constructive to resolve improper inequalities. 

Many angry and resentful adults today need to learn the same things.  Whether we are rich, poor, middle income-or wealthy mega-corporations-all are morally bound to be fair, to not duck our responsibilities and to pay our appropriate taxes. 

The expanding economic inequality in America between the fabulously wealthy and the impoverished damages our society and is unfair.  But just griping about it doesn't work. 

Promoting what is just makes clear that the common good must be our common ground.  The framers of the American Constitution knew that.  They emphasized forming a more perfect union, establishing justice, insuring domestic tranquility, providing for the common defense and promoting the general welfare. 

The admonition of the book of Proverbs is utterly essential right now:  We must come to "understand righteousness and justice and equity."  It's time to play fair!
