Roy Lloyd: Doing Good
Is there a good deeds gene? I'm not sure, but I do know that an encouraging number of us do try to help others.
I've seen people try to turn off the headlights of an empty parked car, give up their seats to someone who else who really needed it, and offer help to a homeless person.
In ways big and small each of us can make a positive difference. And we don't have to be like those in our society who are determined to be nasty and adversarial, demonizing those with whom they disagree.
What would the world be like if each of us experienced something good each day? Even better-what would the world around us be like if each of us did one good thing each day?
The Bible says that doing good to others is good for the soul and it creates a better world for everyone. Psalm 34 says, "Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it."
The Bible also warns us not to imitate those who poison the communal spirit by being quarrelsome and contentious.
I believe we are to live our lives in ways that are positive, useful and purposeful. So-what one good thing will you do today?
This is Roy Lloyd.
