Bishop Rob Wright: For the Lost

I was born in a foundling home. (That's Catholic Church speak for orphanage.) That may be why I think a lot about Jesus' three stories of being lost and found: a lost sheep, a lost coin and a lost man.

 

Each story tells of a God that risks all, won't rest, and who runs towards the lost. These stories must inspire us to reach out to people in Christ's name. Not as the spiritually smug, but as the thoroughly grateful for having been brought near and for no reason of our doing.

 

We hear too much in the Episcopal Church that "we don't want to feel awkward or be like other denominations by sharing our faith." But, it's not a matter of denomination. The Bible, the Book of Common Prayer and our worship each Sunday put us in the world, with love for the lost.

 

 

Para los Perdidos

Nací en una casa de niños expósitos. Por eso puede ser que piense tanto en las tres historias de Jesús de estar perdido y encontrado: la oveja perdida, la moneda perdida y el hijo pródigo.

Cada historia nos habla deun Dios que lo arriesga todo, que no descansa, y que corre en busca de los perdidos.Estas historias deben inspirarnos a que nos acerquemos a la gente en nombre de Cristo.No como el espiritual petulante, sino como el profundamente agradecidode habernos acercado y no por razón de nuestro actuar.

Con demasiada frecuencia se oye decir en la Iglesia Episcopal que "no queremos sentirnos incómodos o ser como otras confesiones, al compartir nuestra fe". Pero, no es una cuestión deconfesión.La Biblia, el Libro de Oración Común y la adoración realizada los domingos nos coloca en el mundo, con amor hacia los perdidos.
