Bishop Rob Wright: Up from the Water

John baptized Jesus. Baptism marked a new beginning of his life with God. Up from the water, Jesus had that moment. You know the one: The slow moment when God is real and close. The moment you know you're flesh, blood and spirit intertwined in equal parts.

Baptism was the day Jesus' loyalties went public. Our baptism serves the same purpose. Yes, many of us were baptized as children, but each year we get to reaffirm our loyalty to Jesus' way of living and loving: renunciation of evil, whole trust in grace and love, following and obeying (yes, obeying), proclaiming Good News, seeking and serving God in neighbor, striving for justice and peace among people, and respecting the dignity of every human being.

Like Jesus we are the people who are "up from the water." Like Jesus, if you listen, you can hear God being pleased. (Matthew 3:13-17)

Al salir del agua

Juan bautizó a Jesús.

(Mateo 3:13-17).
