This week we start a new series:
Three easy steps to face down worry.
1-Name what’s NOT worrying you;
2-Name what IS worrying you;
3-Hand it over and look beyond.
Today we talk about step #1!
The first thing we should do in facing any fear or worry is to remind ourself of all the things we are not worried about. It is easy in a place of fear to forget our blessings—to forget what is going right! To face fear, we must start in a place of power.
There’s self-interest in naming our blessings. Words have power. Thoughts have power. The things we repeatedly say and think affect how we see the world.
For example, if we focus on our blessings, then we see the world thru the lens of gratitude. Alternatively, if we focus on our problems, then not only do we empower those problems, but we begin to see the world with a negative hue. As the old saying goes: “Better to lose count while naming your blessings, than to lose your blessings to counting your troubles.”
This week, take a moment to name what is NOT worrying you. Make a list of what is working in your life, the people for whom you are grateful, the blessings that you enjoy. If we focus on the good first, then we'll be powered up for step two: naming what IS worrying us.
