American Baptist Churches USA - ABCUSA
American Baptist Churches USA traces its roots to the Philadelphia Baptist Association, organized in 1707 by five Baptist churches in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, whose missionary work helped plant congregations across the young nation. Independent Baptist mission and publication societies, including the American Baptist Home Mission Society founded in 1832, came together in 1907 as the Northern Baptist Convention. The body became the American Baptist Convention in 1950 and took its present name in 1973, with national offices in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
Rooted in historic Baptist convictions such as believer's baptism, the authority of Scripture, the freedom of each soul before God, local church autonomy, and religious liberty, American Baptists have long championed missions, education, and social witness. Its global mission work continues through International Ministries, and the denomination is a member of the Baptist World Alliance, the National Council of Churches, and the World Council of Churches.
