Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Egypt - EPCE

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Egypt, widely known as the Synod of the Nile, is Egypt’s oldest and largest Protestant denomination. Its roots reach back to Presbyterian mission work begun in 1854, and it became an independent Egyptian church in 1958. Grounded in the Reformed tradition and organized through Presbyterian governance, the church emphasizes biblical preaching, Christian discipleship, evangelism, and service to the whole person. Its ministries have made lasting contributions to Egyptian education, healthcare, theological formation, community development, and Christian-Muslim dialogue. The Synod supports schools, hospitals, youth ministries, congregations, and mission initiatives throughout Egypt, while the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo prepares pastors and leaders for service across Egypt and the wider Arab world. It also participates in global ecumenical life through the World Council of Churches and the World Communion of Reformed Churches.
