First Baptist Church of Asheville, NC
Our Story
First Baptist Church of Asheville is a caring and compassionate church which, like Jesus, accepts everyone and is committed to serving our neighbors, community, and world. Some people know us as "that church with the dome," and it's hard to miss our landmark building, designed by renowned architect Douglas Ellington in the mid-1920's. The church that meets under that dome has a rich history of service locally and leadership globally among Baptists and other people on pilgrimage with Christ.
Our mission statement describes First Baptist Church of Asheville as a "community of faith, centered on Jesus Christ and committed to his purposes in the world." Those purposes include authentic freedom, caring friendship, and deepening faith, all of which grow from a vital connection with Jesus and his church. We invite others to come to know that story and share in the journey with us. This congregation is a living expression that finds its fullness in the diversity of gifts each one brings to his or her pilgrimage with God. All are welcome as we discover this way together.
