Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo
Founded in 1863, the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo is a historic center of Protestant theological education in Egypt. Its earliest classes were held aboard the houseboat Ibis as it traveled along the Nile, combining theological study with practical ministry in towns and villages. Since 1926, the seminary has been based in the Abbasia district of Cairo. Grounded in evangelical and Reformed theology and shaped by its Presbyterian heritage, ETSC prepares pastors and leaders for the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Egypt and for churches and Christian communities throughout the Arab world and beyond. Its residential and online programs support biblical study, preaching, pastoral formation, leadership, worship, and engagement with Middle Eastern Christianity and society. Through its teaching, research centers, library, and ministry training, ETSC equips Christian leaders to serve the church and bear witness to Jesus Christ in their communities.
