Edmund Steimle: God of the Mountain and the Plain

In his sermon for Transfiguration Sunday, Lutheran preacher Edmund Steimle says many believe God is not of this world. They tune it out. It is easy to experience religion as out of this world. God offers us no escape from the world and its problems. Whether it’s communist aggression or growing juvenile delinquency, we must do more than defend; we must get involved. Jesus brings together the glory of the mountaintop religion and the misery on the plain of life.
