The Rev. Dr. Scott Weimer

Denomination: Presbyterian Church (USA) (PCUSA)
Organization: North Avenue Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, GA

Named one of Georgia Trend magazine's "100 Most Influential Georgians" in 2006, Dr. Scott Weimer is currently the senior pastor of North Avenue Presbyterian Church, located in the growing midtown section of Atlanta. Coming from previous pastoral calls at First Church in Bradenton, Florida and Clairmont Presbyterian in Atlanta, Scott continues his commitment to ministry in his twelfth year of leadership at North Avenue.

Scott loves to travel with his family and the church, as this activity engages him in mission around the world. In 2007, he led trips to Thailand, Myanmar, and Honduras. In 2006, he visited North Avenue Presbyterian's sister church in Mexico City and participated in a dedication ceremony at Presbyterian University in Kenya. During the summer of 2005, after being named one of three Georgia pastors to receive the prestigious Pastoral Sabbatical Grant from the Lilly Foundation, Scott traveled to South Korea, China, and France. For his focus on mission around the world and in Atlanta, Scott was honored with the James H. Costen Award for Religion, given by the Interdenominational Theological Center in April 2007.

Scott is a former moderator of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, a founding board member of the Presbyterian Global Fellowship, and a current member of the Board of Trustees of the Presbyterian Foundation. His community service includes service as a board member and former executive board member of The Westminster Schools in Atlanta and founding board member of StreetGRACE, an organization dedicated to ending human sex trafficking.

Scott and his wife Cynthia will be celebrating 30 years of marriage in December 2009, and enjoy spending quiet time together in the midst of their otherwise busy lives. An avid reader and runner, Scott also enjoys watching college basketball (go Jayhawks!) and hanging out with his three children-daughter Christen, a recent graduate of Barnard College-Columbia University, and sons, James, a senior at the University of Georgia, and Justin, a 10th grader at Whitefield Academy.

A native of Clay Center, Kansas, Scott completed his undergraduate work at the University of Kansas. In 1978, he moved to Chicago to receive his Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Divinity School; later he earned his Master of Theology with specialization in History of Doctrine from Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey. In 1991, he received his Doctorate of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.

Scott, Cynthia, and Justin live in Mableton, Georgia.
