The Rev. Dr. Brett Webb-Mitchell is an ordained Presbyterian Church (USA) pastor, a teacher, writer, speaker, pilgrim, LGBTQIA+ activist, parent, grandparent, pet lover, and in a partnered relationship with Christian Halstead.
Currently, he is the organizing pastor of The Community of Pilgrims Presbyterian Fellowship in Portland, OR (www.communityofpilgrims.com), and founder of the religious non-profit School of the Pilgrim (www.schoolofthepilgrim.org), leading church groups on pilgrimages here and abroad. He has authored ten books, the latest three books on pilgrimage.
For the last three years he was also the LGBTQIA+ Advocacy Coordinator in the OR-ID United Methodist Church Conference, has been pastor or interim pastor with ten churches, and taught at North Carolina Central University and Duke University in Durham, NC for over fourteen years combined.
The author of several books, he is currently writing A Daily Devotion for Ordinary Pilgrims on an Extraordinary Pilgrimage, and his memoir, Everyday Superman: A Gay Critique on the Decline of American Christianity.

I enjoy performing a wedding, witnessing the coming together of family and friends for a joyous celebration, recognizing the miracle of the joining together of two lives – body, mind and spirit – as they commit to each other with the simple 'I do.'

The two-hundred twenty-first General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) met in Detroit earlier this month and made some policy changes that will have a direct impact upon the lives of its members once the Assembly adjourned. Like the ELCA, the Episcopal Church, Disciples of Christ, Moravians and the UCC, most Presbyteries in the Presbyterian Church USA now welcome out-LGBTQ people as ordained and installed leaders. While my heart is filled with joy, others in my Church enter a sober time of discernment, discouraged by the Spirit's forward movement.
