The Rev. Dr. Blair Monie

Dr. Blair R. Monie has served as Pastor/Head of Staff of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church since January, 1995. He retired in 2014. Dr. Monie has been involved in theological education since his ordination in 1973. For nine years he served as a supervisor in Princeton Theological Seminary's "Teaching Church" program, where he worked with two seminarians each year. His DMin. dissertation at Princeton was entitled "Developing of Theology of Ministry Through Seminary Field Education-An Analysis and Critique." This work related directly to his experience with the formation of students, and was done under the advisorship of Professors Seward Hiltner and Diogenes Allen.
For nine years, Dr. Monie served as a reader of Qualifying Examinations for Princeton's DMin. program, aimed toward developing a coherent theology of ministry. Dr. Monie has served on the Board of Trustees of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, Texas, and also as a member of the General Assembly Council of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), chairing the Congregational Ministries Division, and was a member of the Committee on Theological Education (COTE). He also chaired the Ecclesiology Committee of the 217th General Assembly in 2006, with major responsibility for the Report of the Special Task Force on the Peace, Unity, and Purity of the Church.
Dr. Monie retired from Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church on June 30, 2014. Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary has named him the Louis H. and Katherine S. Zbinden Distinguished Professor of Pastoral Ministry and Leadership, beginning in September, 2014. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Princeton Theological Seminary.
In 2013, a generous gift from Robert J. and Mary Wright of Dallas established the Blair R. Monie Distinguished Chair in Homiletics at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in honor of Dr. Monie's ministry.
