Jessica Christy is the 2016 recipient of the David H. C. Read Preacher/Scholar Award, given by Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York, NY.

A native of Minnesota, Jessica graduated from Princeton University and earned her M.Div. in 2016 from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. While at Union she did field education at Advent Lutheran Church, and during her last year was Advent's director of Christian education.

Jessica is a candidate for ordination in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and is studying at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN.

Jessica Christy: "But They Covered Their Ears"

Jessica Christy compares the situation with Stephen in Acts, where the angry crowd covered their ears to block out his words before they stoned him to death, to the political scene these days. Yet as Stephen lay dying, he never stops seeing his killers as people worthy of forgiveness and love, and God calls us to have this same approach to others.
