For six years she was associate professor an at Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit.
A translator of the works of Rainer Maria Rilke, she is the author or editor of numerous books including Women, Celibacy, and the Church, The Power of Solitude, Making Confession/Hearing Confession, and Ultimate Price: Christians Who Resisted the Third Reich.
