Rev. Dr. Jared E. Alcántara serves as the Professor of Preaching and holds the Paul W. Powell Endowed Chair in Preaching at Baylor University's Truett Theological Seminary. He also directs the Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching, where he is dedicated to equipping students to preach God's Word in ways that are faithful, effective, clear, creative, and inspiring.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Dr. Alcántara came to faith in Christ at the age of fourteen. He is half-Latino (Honduran) and half-White, bringing a rich cultural perspective to his ministry. An ordained Baptist minister, he has served in various pastoral roles, including youth pastor, associate pastor, and teaching pastor across Illinois, Massachusetts, Oregon, and New Jersey.

Before joining Baylor in 2018, Dr. Alcántara was an associate professor of homiletics at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. He earned his Ph.D. in Practical Theology with a focus on Homiletics from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2014. His academic journey also includes a Master of Theology in Homiletics from the University of Edinburgh, a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts in Ancient Languages from Wheaton College.

Dr. Alcántara's scholarly contributions are notable, with publications such as The Challenge of Joseph H. Jackson (Oxford University Press, 2024), How to Preach Proverbs (Fontes Press, 2022), and The Practices of Christian Preaching (Baker Academic, 2019). He is an active member of the Academy of Homiletics, the Evangelical Homiletics Society, and the Hispanic Theological Initiative.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Alcántara enjoys playing the piano, disc golfing, and is an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. He resides in the Waco area with his wife, Jennifer, and their three daughters.
