The Rev. Adam Thomas
The Episcopal Church
St. Stephen's Episcopal Church - Cohasset, MA
The Rev. Adam Thomas is the Assistant to the Rector at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Cohasset, MA. As one of the first members of the Millennial generation to be ordained to the priesthood, Adam brings a new voice to conversations about God, faith, spirituality, and the church.
Adam began writing his blog, wherethewind.com, in June of 2008, the week before his ordination to the priesthood. During the time since, he has added music, audio sermons, and video Bible studies to the written posts. He is a monthly contributor to EpiscopalCafe.com, a member of the Christian Century Blogging Community, and a recent contributor to The Christian Century magazine. Look for his book Digital Disciple, coming out in May 2011 from Abingdon Press.
Adam is a priest and a writer and couldn't be one without the other. He writes to reflect on his call to serve God as a priest, and being a priest gives him stuff to write about. He counts C.S. Lewis, Brian McLaren, and Anne Lamott as some of his mentors in writing and the faith.

Having the flu changed my life. The day was Thursday, March 13th, 2008, and I was sitting on my futon with my computer on my lap. Quite suddenly, I realized how clammy and hot I felt. Half an hour before, I had felt just fine; but in just thirty minutes my insides decided that they needed desperately to become my outsides. I put my computer on the floor, leapt up, and staggered into the bathroom. I was ill for five days, and during that time all I did was sleep and watch my recently acquired complete series of Star Trek: The Next Generation on DVD. For those five days, I did not open the lid of my laptop. I did not press the power button. And I did not log in to the computer game that had dominated my life for nearly two years.

How could we be so bold, so cocky, so derelict in our duty to God to be stewards of this creation that we pump toxic liquids out of the ground without so much as even a sketch of a plan to deal with the consequences of our own fallibility? With this thought on my mind, I glance at the readings for this upcoming Sunday and the words of Psalm 8 hit me hard upside the head.

A sermon about the Book of Revelation by an Episcopal priest. To borrow Vizzini and Inigo's conversation in The Princess Bride: "Apocalypse. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
