True Riches

One of life's wonders is that the greatest real treasures the world has to offer are available to all. Rich and poor. Educated and uneducated. Solomon, in all his wealth and glory, recognized that true riches lie in the realm of wisdom and things of the spirit. Not in gold or silver.

In the Book of Proverbs, the good king said of wisdom: "Riches and honor are with me. Durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold. And my revenue better than choice silver."

The riches he was speaking of are there for anyone to possess. The wealth of wisdom is within the reach of everyone. College educations may be unattainable for some, but wisdom offers her fruit to all who seek it and to all alike... the learned and the unlearned.

The Rev. John R Gunn comments that "You may be poor. You may be uneducated. But the essential treasures of life -- wisdom, understanding and spiritual discernment -- are within your reach.

The Bible tells how: 'Whoever of you is defective in wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all men without question or reproach and the gift will be his.'

No question asked about earlier mistakes and missed opportunities. No reproach for earlier failures. It is in the act of turning to God that wisdom begins. Then you take the first wise step. And it is in letting Him lead your faltering steps that you will win understanding of yourself, your fellow man and of God.

Here indeed, is a fortune. The wonder is that everyone can have it. If you really want wisdom and act in faith to claim it, this matchless fortune can be yours."
