Bishop L. Bevel Jones III is bishop in residence at Candler School of Theology, Emory University, and former bishop of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. He lives in Atlanta, GA.

Bishop Jones has been a leader in the United Methodist Church as well as in ecumenical circles for over half a century. A trustee emeritus of Emory University, he is Special Assistant for Development there.

He pastored several churches in the Atlanta area, including St. Mark and First United Methodist Decatur, and then served as resident bishop of the Western North Carolina Annual Conference, based in Charlotte, before officially retiring from the ministry. In recent years he’s been as busy as ever, serving on several boards including the Alliance for Christian Media (Day1), filling numerous pulpits, and writing articles as well as a memoir, One Step Beyond Caution.
