If I were to ask you what kind of music you like best, I could expect any one of several answers. Some few persons might answer that they like best the music of the birds or the soothing music of a mountain stream. A few might think to say that the finest music is the noise of happy children at play, but most of us think first of man made instruments and songs, when we think of music.
Melodies fashioned to be played or sung with some instrument man has devised are the most pleasing music to most of us. Of the wide variety of man made music, you may prefer folk songs or symphonies or the rousing beat made by a brass band or, perhaps, there is nothing sweeter in the world than you wife's voice singing in the kitchen.
Whatever your choice, I expect you would be hard put to explain what music does to you or why you find it so delightful. The fact that man is the only creature who can continue to create new music and can respond with joy to a wide range of music is another of man's mysterious gifts that point us towards something greater than ourselves.
In some strange way that no one has ever understood, music is a part of the very spirit of mankind. The Bible teaches that the gift of song and music is a gift from God. The Bible has much to say about music, which was and is, a joyous part of the worship of God. Simple hymns like 'The Old Rugged Cross' or majestic melodies like the 'Hallelujah Chorus' are the responses and worship of man's soul to the God who made and saved him. The fun and laughter of 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat' or 'Hi, Dolly' are man's response to the joy of a life which God has made wonderfully good.
If you have God's music in your heart, it will pour from your lips.
