The Rev. Dr. George Mason is the pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas.

He is a nationally recognized leader among Baptists, serving the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Baptist General Convention of Texas, Texas Baptists Committed, Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University, Duke University Divinity School, and Children's Medical Center of Dallas.

Mason has given keynote addresses at meetings of the CBF and BGCT, as well as the Fund for Theological Education. He has been a featured preacher on the nationally syndicated radio broadcast Day 1.

At Wilshire, he has birthed and directs the unique pastoral residency program that currently enjoys funding from the Lilly Endowment. One of his passions is encouraging those whom God has called into vocational ministry.

George earned a bachelor of business administration degree in 1978 from the University of Miami (Florida), where he was a quarterback on the football team.

He also holds both the master of divinity (1982) and doctor of philosophy (1987) degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. His doctoral field of study was systematic theology, with a minor in philosophy of religion. His dissertation was "God's Freedom as Faithfulness: A Critique of Juergen Moltmann's Social Trinitarianism."

He was always hard to get a hold of-Jesus. I wonder if he tried to climb out of the manger. It probably shouldn't have surprised us that the grave couldn't hold him either. Even death couldn't keep that good man down.

We don't know much about his childhood, but even when Jesus was 12 and visited the temple in Jerusalem with his parents, he slipped through their fingers and they had to go search for him. And, then, when you expected him to be in the temple, he might just as surely be out in the desert praying or on a hillside teaching or hanging out with prostitutes, tax collectors, and other sinners on the wrong side of town. It was always hard to figure where he might turn up next.

I believe the word was "fragile." That's what they said about the French figure skating judge who succumbed to pressure from the Russian Figure Skating Federation and caused a huge Olympic brouhaha two years ago. Her unfaithful act robbed the Canadian pair of a gold medal. Judge Marie-Reine Le Gougne admitted giving lower scores to the Canadian skaters, and the evidence was strong enough against her that the IOC granted the Canadians a gold medal along with the Russians.
