The Value of Rest

"In six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it.
-Exodus 20:11

Believers of all kinds argue the how of Creation. That is not the issue. The important thing to grasp today is that God created everything, and then rested.

God didn't need to rest. God wasn't tired. There were no sore fingers, no aching back, no strained muscles. God took the time to stop, look at what had been accomplished and consider it good.

Rest was valuable to God. So valuable, in fact, that we're invited to do the same.

We all get weary from our week of activities. But the day of rest is not just about resting our bodies; it's about renewing our soul and recharging our spirit.

It's about thinking through our week: what we accomplished, what we have yet to do, where we failed, how we need to correct our steps. It's about meditating on our relationship with God and on our response to God.

Consider again how you spend your "day off"-your Sabbath. And begin making a conscious effort to spend it wisely.
