Dr. Pratt is a retired United Methodist pastor and pastoral counselor. He was the founding pastor of a congregation that remains, after 48 years, one of the most racially integrated of the Virginia Annual Conference. Then, for thirty years he was a pastoral counselor on Capitol Hill and in the City of Fairfax.
For six of the nine years of his retirement, Benjamin has been a caregiver for his wife Judith. Among the many positives of that relationship, Benjamin has written a book of spiritual practices and disciplines in A GUIDE FOR CAREGIVERS, Keeping Your Spirit Healthy When Your Caregiver Duties and Responsibilities Are Dragging you Down. This is his second book published by ReadTheSpirit.com in three years. His first book is a moral inventory and Bible study with James Bond, Ian Fleming's Seven Deadlier Sins & oo7's Moral Compass.
Benjamin and Judith reside in Fairfax, Virginia. Benjamin says, "Personally, I am a Christian, an avid reader, a bicyclist, a suburban gardener, and a fine woodworker. My drinks: shaken not stirred. I have good friends, and we nurture each other well. I am a dedicated family man who takes great delight in his children and grandchildren. Judith and I are in our forty-ninth year of marriage."

She sits in front of the fire wrapped in a soft, deep blue prayer shawl, crafted by a friend with love.
She shakes against the cold that is more a part of her body than the room-she curls in to contain warmth she wishes were hers.
The pain started where it always starts-behind her left shoulder. It creeps slowly up her neck and around her left ear. Nothing stops it this time!

Every year, as I walk the Lenten pilgrimage I am reminded of breakfasts prepared over charcoal in a remote farm community in Cuba where our United Methodist Volunteers in Mission Team was working along side our Cuban brothers and sisters to build a retreat facility for the emerging Cuban Methodist Church. It was in that setting that my hungry, empty soul was filled as if by Jesus who also prepared a breakfast over a charcoal fire for his despairing disciples. I am deeply grateful for the compassion from a community filled with Grace who fed my soul.
Gracias Senor!
