Roy Lloyd: Pursuit of Happiness

October 19, 2012

Two women arrived in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, October 7th, having walked the whole way from Vermont. They were investigating the central tenet of the declaration of independence about the right to ", liberty and the pursuit of happiness" by talking to all the people they met along their trek about what made them happy.

So what did they discover? The key to people's generosity. The women say on, "people are happy when they contribute to other people's happiness."

That amplifies the message on a bumper sticker I saw the other day that said, "The best things in life aren't things." It's the modest stuff-small acts of goodness-that really add up and bring happiness.

St. Theresa is known as the saint of the little ways. She believed in doing the little things in life well and with great love. And she prayed, "May you use those gifts that you have received and pass on the love that has been given to you."

May we all pursue happiness. This is Roy Lloyd.
