We're very excited about the new Day1 "Faith and Science in the 21st Century"  formation resource to be published this August by Church Publishing, Inc.!

Faith and Science in the 21st Century presents a way to start this important conversation. Built on existing audio files and videos produced by Day1 with assistance from a John Templeton Foundation grant, this series features notable faith leaders across the denominational spectrum in brief video presentations and longer audio excerpts on scientific topics in which they are experts.  Intended for use in a variety of settings, including congregations, schools, and campus ministries, it can be presented as an 8- or 16-session series of studies, but each session can also stand on its own for a one-time formation offering. Media files are available for download at a modest additional charge. This guide enables facilitators to foster fruitful discussions of each session topic. It includes an introduction about the program and how it can be used, and eight detailed session plans to utilize with a downloadable video and audio sold separately on the Day1 website.

Tom Long: Numbering Our Days - Faith & Science Series Part 7

Tuesday November 03, 2015
The Rev. Dr. Tom Long says the psalmist asks God to teach us to number our days that we may gain a wise heart. In light of advances in medical science, how do we best do that?

Hear the Animals Singing: The Bible and Genetics - Faith & Science Series Part 6

The Image of God and the Secret of Life - Faith & Science Series Part 5

Tuesday October 20, 2015
In his "Faith & Science" series sermon, the Rev. David Wood probes the meaning of human creation in the "image of God" in Genesis in light of recent discoveries in genetics.

Quantum Physics and the Nature of Eternity - Faith & Science Series Part 4

Tuesday October 13, 2015
Bishop Nick Knisely says, in the light of our understanding of time and space, quantum physics, and reality, God's timelessness--which is in evidence throughout the Bible--may be beyond a finite creature's comprehension. Nevertheless there is a reason and a purpose to everything God does.

What Matters Eternally? Faith & Science Series Part 3

Tuesday October 06, 2015
The Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church says we have different ways of approaching the creation stories in Genesis. But she says there is another way to see these stories as profoundly true in their description of God's love for all that is, and profoundly true of human behavior thousands of years ago, today, and into the future.

God and Cosmos - Faith & Science Series Part 2

Tuesday September 29, 2015
In his sermon for our Faith & Science series, Dr. Ted Peters explores the realities behind Psalm 8, which reveals that regardless of how large our cosmos might be, God still loves each one of us individually and intimately.

Every Creature - Faith & Science Series Part 1

Tuesday September 22, 2015
As we launch our new series, Faith & Science in the 21st Century, the Rev. Scott Hoezee asks some of the big questions of life: does the universe make sense? Does the cosmos have a purpose? Do human beings matter? With the help of Paul's soaring words in Colossians 1, he offers help in addressing and exploring those questions as Christians today.

Paul Wallace: How to Talk to Creationists

Tuesday April 26, 2016
I received a note from a youth pastor last week. He is fascinated by science but works in a Midwestern church that leans heavily toward Young Earth Creationism. He asked me: 'When you’ve had conversations with staunch creationists, how do you present the science-Christianity relationship in a way that doesn’t immediately turn them off?'

Greg Cootsona: New Directions in Religion and Science

Thursday April 14, 2016
When we talk about 'religion and science,' it sounds like two things. But that’s changing in at least one way. The contemporary conversation, especially with 18-30 year old, increasingly includes technology. Which emerging adults identify as a component of””or even a more important substitute for””science.

Greg Cootsona: iPod or LP? Surprising Ways Emerging Adults Think About Religion and Science

Thursday March 10, 2016
Talking about 'religion and science' may sound like a conversation between two things, but 18-30 year olds see it differently. They have grown up in environments saturated with options and possibilities. And though pluralism is not certainly new, this experience has become increased through the explosion of knowledge on the Internet.

Paul Wallace: Can You Forget How to Believe in God?

Saturday March 05, 2016
Like all other concepts, God-concepts are associated with particular sets of neural pathways in our skulls. Large parts of these concepts and pathways are certainly products of our early experiences and educations and are hardwired as surely as bike-riding knowledge.

Nancy Duff: The Church and the World of Genetic Research: Enemies or Partners in Conversation?

Thursday October 08, 2015
As the church enters and continues to participate in the conversation and debate over the moral issues involved in human genetic research (as well as in plant and animal genetic research), we cannot assume that all scientists or leaders in the biotechnology industry are devoid of moral concerns, nor can we simply let science and business regulate themselves.

Scott Hoezee: Universe, Multiverse, and God - Day1.org Faith & Science Series

Wednesday October 07, 2015
This summer I spent a few days at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena to sit in on a small conference of scholars who were presenting their findings on nine projects investigating the theme of randomness and divine providence. It was a heady couple of days...

Dr. Ted Peters: Science in Pastoral Ministry - Day1.org Faith & Science Series

Tuesday October 06, 2015
The revolutionary new rapprochement between science and theology provides the parish pastor with a treasure chest of intellectual jewels that could enrich his or her preaching, teaching, and perhaps even counseling ministries. To leave this treasure chest unopened would be to deny oneself a wealth of resources for parish ministry.

Scott Hoezee: When Appearances Are Deceiving - Day1.org Faith & Science Series

Wednesday September 30, 2015
"That just doesn’t sound right." At one time or another, we have all had this reaction to something someone said to us. Usually what we indicate by saying this is that we sense intuitively that something is amiss in what was just communicated to us but we cannot at the moment lay our finger on just what that "something" is.

Scott Hoezee: The "One Thing" Behind the Genesis Debate - Day1.org Faith & Science Series

Wednesday September 23, 2015
In recent years it has become clear to me that the debate between young earth creationists and those Christians who accept a more evolutionary view of cosmic history also finally comes down to just one thing: whether we acknowledge the role played by hermeneutics.

Greg Cootsona: Religion and Science: Where Are They Headed?

Tuesday September 22, 2015
Pope Francis's recent encyclical on climate change--and his embrace of mainstream science--brings the question of whether religion and science, two titanic cultural forces, can be reconciled. Whether it's evolution vs. creation through the book of Genesis, or whether religion and science simply see the world in irreconcilable ways, or a whole host of other topics, it would be good to know where these two are headed.
