Roy Lloyd: All Hallows' Eve

October 30, 2016

Tomorrow is Halloween, a time that's been transformed into a commercial event.

But there's a significant spiritual quality to All Hallows Eve. Tradition says the veil between this world and what lies beyond becomes very thin.

My Welsh ancestors considered this a moment to have union with what is unseen and to feel close to those who have passed into the unknown region.

It's a time to honor them, and to remember and rejoice in the gifts they gave to us.

One Welsh poet and hymn writer, Ann Griffiths, who was a religious mystic, called the moment of connection with the eternal sphere outside of ourselves  "swimming in life's pristine river."

I see All Hallows Eve as a time of confidence that all that we see is not all that there is.

May we revere and celebrate what has been, and be enriched by letting eternal light shine into today.

This is Roy Lloyd.
