Coming Up: Next Week's Sermon

Here Comes the Judge!

The Right Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton, senior pastor of the Chautauqua Institution, delivers a compelling sermon titled "Here Comes the Judge!" Reflecting on Numbers 11:4-29 and Mark 9:38-50, Bishop Sutton confronts the age-old tension between judgment and discernment within the Christian faith. "Judgmentalism is a social sin: it is the habit of constantly finding fault with what others say and do." After making 100 TikToks as part of my ministry, here’s what I’ve learned...

Are You Drooping?

The Rev. Margaret Marcuson
American Baptist Churches USA

When I was a pastor, I was always drooping by June. I felt like I was hanging on by my fingernails. I was cranky. The people who seemed charmingly eccentric in September were getting on my last nerve. And I didn’t have to deal with a fiscal year starting July 1! I don’t know how people do it...

The Playfulness of God

Ophelia Hu Kinney
United Methodist Church

Play is how we first made sense of the world into which we were born. It was how we explored ourselves and our worlds, our divine outer and our divine inner realms. Unless we change and become like children, right? Then perhaps we will find our hands cupped and overflowing with the kingdom of God. Above this mycelium, Above the vast and rich traditions of playfulness that buoy and connect our cultures is what is visible on the forest floor of our existence.

So Lonely

Sting was once asked if it was ironic singing this song to large crowds. He replied, “No, there’s no irony whatsoever. From the outside it might look a bit strange, being surrounded by all this attention and yet experiencing the worst lonely feeling…but I do. And then suddenly...
